2013–14 Adirondack Phantoms season

The 2013–14 Adirondack Phantoms season was the franchise's 18th season in the American Hockey League, which began on October 5, 2013. It was the fifth and final season they played in Glens Falls, New York before relocating to Allentown, Pennsylvania.
==Off-season==

The 2013–14 season will be the fifth and final year the Phantoms play in Glens Falls, New York before relocating to the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The team planned to make the move this season, but Allentown construction delays resulted in the Phantoms signing on to remain at Glens Falls Civic Center for one more year. The city-owned Civic Center was budgeted to cost Glens Falls $605,360 in operating losses and debt, and if it is not sold, city officials will require $900,000 in budget funding to improve the arena, including new luxury boxes, improved locker rooms and upgraded telecommunications and other amenities.〔 Real estate developer Richard Schermerhorn had expressed interest in buying the arena and bringing an ECHL hockey team there, and held informal talks with Glens Falls officials about the matter. In May, Lake George Mayor Robert Blais proposed the towns surrounding Glens Falls make annual contributions to the arena to help pay its losses, but the proposal was quickly rejected by those municipalities.〔 In September 2013, Phantoms co-owner Rob Brooks arranged for Glens Falls Mayor Jack Diamond to meet with the American Hockey League Board of Governors with the hopes that he could convince them to bring another team to the Civic Center. A public referendum had originally been scheduled for November 2013 to determine whether the city should sell Civic Center, although Diamond said it may be delayed until November 2014.
The Phantoms saw a handful of departures during the off-season including goaltender Scott Munroe, defenseman Blake Kessel and forward Mitch Wahl. Defenseman Jeff Dimmen, a healthy scratch for all but 34 games in Adirondack last season, also left the team. Adirondack re-signed forward Rob Bordson, as well as defensemen Oliver Lauridsen and Brandon Manning,〔 while also trading defenseman Danny Syvret to the New York Rangers for center Kris Newbury. Adirondack signed several new players, including goaltender Yann Danis; defensemen Steven Delisle, Maxim Lamarche, and Bruno Gervais; and forwards Michael Raffl,〔 Petr Straka, Doug Clarkson and Chris VandeVelde. Eric Wellwood, a Flyers winger and restricted free agent, signed a temporary deal with the Phantoms for the season, but cannot play until January due to his recovery from an injured Achilles' tendon. The arrangement means he will not count against the Flyers' 50-contract limit, and he is expected to eventually return to the National Hockey League.
After training camp began in Glens Falls began on September 23, the Phantoms played in two preseason games and lost both, starting with a 3–2 loss against the Albany Devils on September 28. Adirondack allowed 14 penalties in the game, including four minors in 4:20 in the second period, three of them in 64 seconds. The Phantoms also lost 4–2 to the Utica Comets on September 29, in which Raffl scored both of Adirondack's goals. The Phantoms went into the regular season with a 26-player roster, a large number considering that only 18 skaters and two goaltenders can be dressed each game.
